Got is as a replacement for the TOMY walkabout platinum. You need to use these monitors for at least 6 months in order to get a real feel of their quality.
The walkabout platinum batteries died very early and replacement was not that easy because they are not standard size (AAA etc). The Philips has standard size user replaceable batteries so even if they go bad, you can get them anywhere fairly cheap.
Features and build quality are excellent. I gave it 4 stars only because the volume level of the parent unit is not as high as the TOMY thus making it hard sometimes to realize that the baby is crying when the TV at normal sound levels sounds louder than the parent unit.
My advice for anyone buying a monitor:
1. Go for a DECT monitor.
2. Go for a parent unit with easily replaceable batteries.
To summarize, this monitor is highly recommended.

Excellent Baby monitor and serves for all the needs for ensuring the safety of your baby when they are asleep. I have twins and at times need to place one in the room and other close to me. When playing the lullaby in the bedroom the other baby can hear with me through handheld.
It is compact and very simple to use.. I recommend to any parent or parent-to-be this is a MUST!!!

The monitor has zero interference and sound quality is amazing. Temperature sensor is not accurate and mine always shows 23 deg wherever you keep it. The hand unit is very sleek and highly portable.

Great quality sound, which gives us lots of confidence. Both units are sleek and smaller than we expected from the photos, with the monitor around 4 inches high. It is quick to charge, and the blue LEDs are quick to get your attention.

Only drawback is noisy feedback which means you need to turn it off before going into the same room as the base unit.

This is by far the best baby monitor I have tried & it is my fourth attempt!!! Simple to use, lots of extra features if you're into that sort of thing. The most important aspect for me was the perfectly clear transmission with no interference. I can hear my baby breathing & turning over or moving in the cot at the maximum sensitivity / volume setting, (or the sensitivity / volume can be decreased if preferred). Great battery life. Parent unit is small & stylish like a mobile phone & I particularly like the cord you can attach to carry it around your neck.

Before this one I have also tried the following monitors...
- a very old Angelcare monitor (very good & would recommend - older models just a bit buzzy with interference),
- a basic Tommee Tippee (awful interference, but gave to a friend & it is fine in her house),
- BT 150 (the worst - interference, not sensitive/loud enough & transmission would cut out even though lights said still transmitting - so scary!!! Sent it back)

I am thinking about getting another Philips Avent SCD520 for my second baby as Philips have assured me because the monitors use DECT technology so won't interfere with each other.

Highly recommended!
