2yrs 6months and Counting....
|

| I've had this product for 2yrs and 6months. It has not failed or had any errors. It is the only external hard drive I've owned so I can not compare it. I use it to stream video and music media. Transfer speed of large volumes of data, 10s of Gigabytes, isn't slow by my own standards. Read the other reviews for technical. I testify that this product is Great! |

| I read some of the other reviews, and decided to have a go with this one. It works perfectly for my needs. I backup lots of dvd's and cd's onto my pc, and find that media sharing in windows 7 is not so great, so this fills the void perfectly. As others have said, I didnt bother to use any of hte bundled software, just plug and play. The only thing I would do different is to buy the 1TB version instead, as the price difference is neglible. |
Good External Hard Drive for the Average User

I bought this about 6 months ago and am still using it today. It gets extremely high usage as I use it to store and stream all my music, films, and series. Transfer speed is what you would expect from a USB 2.0 device as are read/write speeds. In all likelihood if you are interested in having fast read/write speeds you would probably be looking at internal hard-drives or perhaps be awaiting the wonderful USB 3.0 technology.
Aesthetics wise I think it looks great on my desk. The nice shiny finish is rather vulnerable to scratches (even from light debris being brushed while dusting). Note I do look after my products brilliantly.
My had drive does get transported around pretty regularly for which I use its original packaging. I try hard not to bump it and it has only received one large shock on dropping from my desk to a carpeted floor. It worked just fine afterwards. It also has withstood several power-cuts without data loss or corruption which I was very pleased about.
All in all a great external hard drive which looks great. I'd recommend to anyone who just wants somewhere to store their pictures, movies or excess content (I still advise having important things in more than one place). Not for anything which require fast read/write access. |
Failed but replaced

What can I say, it's an external hard drive & it does what it needs to. Mine failed within the first year so I contacted WD directly & they replaced it with an upgraded model (with firewire & e-sata connections) Whilst I was very disappointed at the time I am over it & would happily buy again. Customer service was great & had new drive with week of sending broken one. No hard drive is bulletproof & my replacement drive works well under continuous use 24/7 for a further year now.
Would have received 5 stars if drive hadn't failed. |
