Included Game system Dualshock wireless controller AC power cord Audio/Video cable USB cable As DVD playback made the PlayStation 2 more than just a game machine, hefty multi-media features make the PlayStation 3 Slim an even more versatile home entertainment machine. 32% smaller, 36% lighter and consuming 34% less power than the originals, this latest edition of the PlayStation 3 has been completely redesigned for a much more streamlined feel. Features such as video chat, internet access, digital photo viewing, and digital audio and video will likely make it the central component of your media set-up. Still, it is first and foremost a powerful gaming console. Under the Hood The PS3 features IBM's "Cell" processor and a co-developed Nvidia graphics processor that makes the system able to perform two trillion calculations per second. That makes the PlayStation 3 40 times faster than the PS2. Along with the traditional AV and composite connections, it also boasts an HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) port, which delivers uncompressed, unconverted digital picture and sound to compatible high-definition TV and projectors. The system is capable of 128-bit pixel precision and 1080p resolution for a full HD experience. This console also provides for a sound experience by supporting Dolby Digital 5.1, DTS 5.1, as well as Linear PCM 7.1. A pre-installed 120 GB hard disc drive allows you ample room to save games as well as download content from the internet. Blu-Ray Is the New Way Sony's PlayStation 3 games are encoded onto the Blu-Ray disc media format, which can hold six times as much data as traditional DVDs. This increase in capacity, combined with the awesome power of its processor and graphics card, promises mind-blowing games once developers have learned how to fully harness the new console's power. I haven't had any of the issues ive read about in the other reviews reagrding over heating but maybe i dont play games for hours on end so wouldn't experience that anyway. I do however watch Bluerays which look fantastic when you add a good HDMI cable.
My only issue with the PS3 slim is that to me it looks dated and really a little bit ugly. Maybe im spoilt with the design of my Sky HD box but sit the two side by side and im thinking maybe i can keep the PS3 in a box and just take it out when required.

When ordering a console from amazon make sure you read carefully. I could have got a free ghost busters game with my ps3 but failed to tick the correct box. Amazon would not give me the game after completing my order. So a fantastic console though not backwards compatable. ( shame on you sony). Read the instructions its worth it.
When ordering read everything it could be the difference between a free game and not. |
Still the best games console available

I bought this for my son, to stop him from "borrowing" my old 60GB PS3.
It's a much smaller and lighter version of my old style one, that's even quieter and uses less power.
Obvious cutbacks are 2 USB ports instead of 4, no memory card slots and an inability to play PS2 games, but these all happened in previous versions of the PS3, so it's not a specific critisism to this model.
There's a whole XBox/PS3 debate with fanboys from both sides claiming their console is the best, but when it comes to facts, the choice is clear. The hardware on the PS3 costs a bit more than the XBox, because it does more. BluRay, Wireless Networking, BlueTooth connectivity, easily upgradable standard hard disk are but a few benefits.
The software interface is also very slick, with regular updates to add new features. This is important for BluRay users, as it keeps the player up-to-date with new standards.
There are now hundreds of games out there, many cross-platform ones (available on PC, XBox and PS3) and loads of PS3-Only titles. There are far too many to argue who has the most titles available (if that were the case, my old PS3 would win as it can play all PS2 games, all 10,000 of them).
The PS3 is so much more than a games console though. It slickly rips CD's and catagorizes them (so much better than Windows) so it's a darn good jukebox. You can import photographs, movies (DivX for example), download music and films and even create your own movies with EyeToy. This is a true multimedia entertainment centre.
Oh, and in case you were in any doubt, it's got Little Big Planet. |
