Not happy with life of product

I have had the Forerunner 50 for a year (but only used it probably 25 times). It has given up the ghost already. I have taken it to a watch repairer who said it was shot and not worth repairing.
Now it could have been because my HR was so strong due to my lack of fitness... but I doubt it.
Poor form Garmin. |
Garmin's Disposable Watch

| Great product until you try to replace the battery. There are countless sites and discussion boards out there where users have tried to replace the battery and then the watch just fails. This happened to me . I followed carefully with excellent tools and magnifying glass the exact steps to replace the battery (after low bat sign on display) , all goes well until the next day the display is blank. I must have used up 5 new batteries and they all failed. I do not recommend this product to anybody who expects to get more than 6 months out of it. |

| Excellent, non-intrusive training aid. You can monitor your heart-rate and length of training and upload your stats to a personalised, secure section of the Garmin website to monitor your progress or upload to a Garmin application that you can download onto your own computer. Haven't tried it yet with the foot-pod, but looking forward to using this also to monitor distance travelled as well. |
Good value for money............

| Looked at all the available heart monitors and found this to be the best value for your money. Read several reviews with issues with the buttons on the watch being pressed whilst wearing it, never had this happen yet. |
Battery Problems
|

I purchased this watch in February 2009. Initially it worked fine though I thought the display was a bit dull. However, after about 8 months the battery failed. I had the battery replaced by a high street watch dealer but the new one only lasted two weeks. I took the watch back to the battery shop and they replaced the battery again free of charge. However, this second battery also only lasted about a fortnight. The manual indicates that the battery should last over 12 months. Looking at some other reviews I note that battery problems crop up quite frequently. I have now returned the watch.
It's a nice watch and has a number of useful functions but it's of no use if the battery keeps failing. |
